Interactive Silicon Debug and
Characterization with
Silicon Insight Desktop

Silicon Insight Datasheet

Vectorless Production Datalogging Datasheet

Silicon Insight® Desktop is a PC or laptop solution that enables test bring-up and silicon characterization to be performed on devices containing LogicVision BIST capabilities. Silicon Insight Desktop provides a fully interactive graphical debug environment that runs on any Linux platform. All communication to the device under test (DUT) is performed through a simple USB-to-JTAG cable interface that connects to the standard five IEEE 1149.1 pins on any performance board. Similar debug capabilities can also be performed on most commercial ATE using Silicon Insight® ATE.

Automated Interactive Debug and Diagnostics

Designers use LogicVision's ETCreate design automation flow to create and integrate BIST resources into a design. As part of the final signoff process, the ETCreate flow generates a LogicVision database (LVDB) which contains extensive information on the BIST resources and the design itself. The LVDB provides Silicon Insight with the information it needs to control and interpret results from the BIST within the DUT. The result is fully interactive diagnosis and characterization for logic, memories and mixed-signal structures. Little to no test equipment is needed as the only requirement is that the device under test be provided with power and clocking. This is generally available within a performance or system board environment. If this is not available, Silicon Insight Desktop will also soon support a USB-to-GPIB interface for controlling benchtop clock generators and/or power supplies. Silicon Insight Desktop can also be used to create a LogicVision Production Database (LVPD). The LVPD is a reduced version of the LVDB which also contains software routines that provide similar functionality to the real-time Silicon Insight software. These routines are linked into any test program and are accessed through user function calls. This allows detailed BIST datalogging to be performed on any test floor without the need to install any software.
